Professional Overview

Jamie L. Filipovic is a Partner in the Chicago office. She divides her practice between employment law and professional liability defense. Her litigation practice is diverse, involving appearances before state and federal courts in various states.

Jamie is an integral part of O’Hagan Spencer’s employment litigation practice and provides a full spectrum of employment-related services to her employer-clientele. Jamie represents employers in various state and federal court proceedings in cases involving discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour claims, including both class/collective actions and single plaintiffs. She also offers counseling and internal investigation during lay offs, terminations, disciplinary action or hiring, and can negotiate employment contracts and severance packages. She also advises clients regarding employee-related written policies such as employee handbooks and disciplinary policies. Jamie also represents clients in administrative proceedings brought before the Equal Opportunity Commission, Illinois Department of Labor, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Illinois Department of Human Rights and the City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations. She also has experience in representing her clients in labor disputes and arbitrations before unions and the National Labor Relations Board.

Jamie also represents large corporations, small to mid-size businesses, insurance and financial services companies, real estate professionals, medical professionals and not-for-profit corporations, including Condominium Associations and Board of Directors in various professional liability matters. She also has experience in consumer finance matters and defending corporations in consumer finance litigation.

Jamie is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois, the Northern District of Illinois and the Northern District of Texas and has been admitted pro hac vice in various state courts throughout the United States.

Jamie is an active member of the Illinois Woman’s Bar Association, Professional Liability Attorney Network (PLAN), Professional Liability Underwriter’s Society (PLUS), and the Chicago Bar Association where she is a member of the Labor and Employment Committee. She also serves as an active Member of DRI’s Professional Liability Committee and is a member of DRI’s Women in the Law Committee. Jamie is an active member of the Chicago community. She is an active member of Step Up Woman’s Network and the Junior League of Chicago where she serves on the Kids in the Kitchen Committee for community service. As an avid marathon runner herself, Jamie volunteers her time with the organization Girls on the Run, which encourages preteen girls to develop self respect and healthy lifestyles through running.

Education

Jamie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1999. She received her Juris Doctor from the DePaul University School of Law, Chicago in 2002 where she was an Editor for the DePaul University College of Law Journal of Healthcare Law and the DePaul Business Law Journal.
