We like to remind our friends in the healing arts that when we lawyers were writing the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, they were putting leeches on George Washington. Nevertheless, one cannot argue with the fact that modern medicine is miraculous. Our doctors and scientists have created drugs and medical devices that have turned what just a few years ago were fatal conditions to minor nuisances. Who could have imagined in our parents’ early days that people would be getting new hips and knees with about as much fuss as a car gets new tires?
But despite the great good these wonders have done us, a sad truth abides: If you build it, they will sue. And when they sue, we’re pleased to have the chance to help. Because the people and the companies that make those drugs and devices are real heroes. That’s why they are some of our favorite clients. |
